Retired Carpenter Dead At Age Of 73
Harleigh Herbert Strong, 73, retired carpenter of Lewiston who worked on construction of the Potlatch Forests, Inc. mill here in 1924, died at 9:30 yesterday morning at St. Joseph's hospital.
He came to Lewiston first in 1891, moving to Garwood, Idaho, in 1912. He returned when construction was started in 1924 and had lived here continously since. He was a native of Irving, Kans., being born June 2, 1878.
Mrs. Emma Strong, the wife survives at the home, 2203 8th Ave. Also surviving are two sons and 10 daughters, Raymond C. Strong of Lewiston, Leonard R. Strong of Clarkston; Jo Ann and Janet Dee Strong, at the home; Mrs. Ruby Verge of Spokane; Mrs. Pearl Helling of Portland; Mrs. Andrew E. Marvin of Clarkston; Mrs. Dave Klinger of Dexter, Ore.; Mrs. John McAmis of Salinas, Calif.; Mrs. Earl Enyeart of Orofino; Mrs. Marvin Jensen and Mrs. Ray Dietz of Lewiston; 17 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Private services will be held at 3:30 tomorrow afternoon at Merchant's chapel, Clarkston, with Brower-Wann funeral directors in charge. The Rev. Erwin Ranton will officiate and burial will be at Normal Hill cemetery. The family has requested no flowers. Those wishing to are asked instead to make contributions to the American Heart association in memory of the deceased.
